Classic Green Bean Casserole

A true fan favorite for holiday entertaining. Bacon is cooked crisp and set aside. Chopped white onion and bell pepper are sautéed and combined with whole green beans, dry white wine, whole milk, butter, condensed cream of mushroom soup and soy sauce. Shredded mozzarella cheese is folded in. Mixture is seasoned with sea salt and fresh ground black pepper and transferred to prepared ceramic baking dish. Casserole is topped with French fried onions and crumbled bacon before being baked.

Ingredients -

1 (16 ounces) package Frozen Whole Green Beans, thawed
4 Bacon Slices
1/2 Medium White Onion, chopped
1/2 Red Bell Pepper, seeded and diced
1/4 cup Dry White Wine or Vermouth
1/4 cup Whole Milk
2 tablespoons Butter
1 (10.75 ounces) can Condensed Cream of Mushroom Soup
1 tablespoon Soy Sauce
Sea Salt, to taste
Fresh Ground Black Pepper, to taste
1/2 cup Shredded Mozzarella Cheese
1/2 cup French Fried Onions

 
Preparation:

1. Turn the oven to 325 degrees F and preheat.

2. Cook, crisp and crumble the bacon and set aside.

3. Drain the bacon grease from the pan and place the pan back over medium heat.

4. Add the bell pepper and onions and cook until tender, stirring occasionally.

5. Pour in the wine and deglaze the bit from the bottom of the pan.

6. Add the green beans, whole milk, butter, soy sauce and condensed cream of mushroom soup.

7. Season with salt and pepper.

8. Gently fold in the shredded mozzarella cheese.

9. Pour the mixture into a buttered 13 x 9-inch ceramic baking dish.

10. Sprinkle the top with the French fried onions and crumbled bacon.

11. Bake until heated through and the sauce is bubbly, which takes about 25 minutes.
