Baked Ziti

 

Ingredients -

1 pound (90% lean)Lean Ground Beef
2 Medium White or Yellow Onions, chopped
3 Garlic Cloves, minced
1 (28 ounces) jar Reduced-Sodium Meatless Spaghetti Sauce
1 (28 ounces) can Diced Tomatoes, undrained
1 (12 ounces) can Tomato Paste
3/4 cup Water
2 tablespoons Minced Fresh Parsley
1 tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce
2 teaspoons Dried Basil
1-1/2 teaspoons Dried Oregano, divided
1 (16 ounces) package Ziti or 16 ounces Small Tube Pasta
1 (15 ounces) carton Reduced-Fat Ricotta Cheese
2 (8 ounces) cups Shredded Part-Skim Mozzarella Cheese
1/2 cup Grated Fresh Parmesan Cheese, divided
1/2 cup Egg Substitute
1/2 teaspoon Coarse Salt
1/2 teaspoon Fresh Ground Black Pepper

 
Preparation:

1. Cook the beef, onions and garlic in a large saucepan over medium heat until the beef is cooked through.

2. Drain the excess liquid.

3. Add the next 8 ingredients and stir well to combine.

4. Simmer for 3 hours, covered, occasionally stirring.

5. Prepare the pasta to al dente, drain, rinse with cold water and drain again.

6. To a bowl, add 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese, egg substitute, salt and pepper and mix well.

7. Spray 2 13 x 9 inch glass baking dishes with nonstick cooking spray.

8. Spread 1 cup of meat sauce into the bottom of the dish.

9. Layer 1/4 of the pasta, 1 cup meat sauce and 1/4 of the cheese mixture.

10. Repeat the layers and top with the remaining sauce.

11. Sprinkle with remaining Parmesan cheese and oregano.

12. Bake for 1 hour, covered, at 350 degrees or until heated through.
